Tasting Notes
Blueberries, plums, spiced raspberries and vanilla on the nose. Fruit-forward and smooth with soft tannins. Medium-bodied with a medium-length finish. Very elegant.
About the Vineyard
Vineyard Notes
Greengate Ranch and Vineyard is immaculate in every way and located just 5 miles from us at Ragtag Wine Co. Our 777 clone of Pinot Noir is grown on a 4 acre block at the top of a subtle Edna Valley slope with good drainage. Rows facing North to South in fertile Diablo and Cibo clay soils producing grapes rich with flavor.
Winemaker Notes
Growing Season
Production Notes
Harvest began early due to heavy rainfall with delayed bud break. Heavy rains resulted in increased botrytis and mildew pressure, but also provided vigorous shoot growth balancing the crop load and canopy. Good soil moisture helped mitigate the effects of a September heat spike, while crops showed good flavor with reduced acidity.
Winemaking
Winemaker Notes
We practiced anaerobic winemaking using dry ice during a 3-day cold soak. Next, we used a special strain of yeast which works in conjunction with typical wine yeast to enhance the wine's complexity and increase viscosity and fullness on the palate. We selected French oak barrels seasoned 36 months in Monthureux sur-Saone France.
