Rich aromas of grapefruit, banana, melon, and peach with a hint of lemon zest. Crisp and lively flavors of strawberries and citrus. A well-balanced light wine that pairs well with grilled seafoods and ceviche.
About the Vineyard
Vineyard Notes
Located just 5 miles from our winery, Greengate Ranch and Vineyard is immaculate and sets the bar for what we look for in a vineyard. Our 777 clone of Pinot Noir is grown on a 4-acre block at the top of a subtle Edna Valley slope with good drainage. North to South facing rows in fertile Diablo and Cibo clay soils produce grapes rich with flavor.

Growing Season
Production Notes
The vintage was marked by a variety of weather events. Early bud break in March followed a dry winter. Late spring brought abnormally windy, cool weather, challenging conditions for fruit set. The first of three heat waves came in mid-August; temperatures soared to as high as 102 degrees F. Ongoing drought exacerbated by the heat waves resulted in yields down by as much as 30%. Additionally, the cool spring meant smaller clusters. Fortunately, the small clusters created deep color and extraction, promising high quality.
Winemaking
Winemaker Notes
An early morning pick meant cold Pinot Noir grapes arrived at the winery by 6:00am. The grapes received a direct, whole cluster press, with pressure no higher than 20psi. Next, a bayanus yeast strain, able to ferment at lower temperatures, was added. A 42-day fermentation was held at 52 degrees F to retain fruit aroma. After a careful racking to remove lees, the wine was cold stabilized to remove tartrates, then transferred to stainless steel to settle and age for 5 months. A final filtration prior to bottling added to clarification and honed the nose.
